P34 - Madonna Kardiotissa

End of 16th Century, signed by Angelos. Byzantine Mueseum, Athens. Kardiotissa, the miracle performing icon which was located in a Cretan monastery until 1420 when it was stolen. It turned up in the 15th Century in Rome. It is one of the best of Cretan paintings from the 16th and 17th Centuries.
