Liesel Steiner Paris was born in Austria and Graduated
from the AKADEMIE OF ANGEWANDTE KUNST (Art Academy of Vienna) in
1962. After her graduation, she remained in Vienna working as
a graphic art designer. During that time period, Liesel became
acquainted with Reverse Glass Painting (Hinterglas). This new
concept of art expression with the allure of a three dimensional
painting.
Through extensive art travels in Central and Eastern
Europe she became intrigued by icons, their fascinating history and
iconography. Combining the transcription of ancient images and the
revival of an old, almost forgotten technique became her artistic
priority.
Unique to Liesel's work is the complicated process of
making the glass -- HER CANVAS -- look old. This is
accomplished by the use of specific chemicals in conjunction with
extensive gold leafing.
Liesel has participated in many exhibitions and won
distinguished awards. She is represented by well known
galleries in the Western United States.
